A TRUE CLASSIC.PRESERVED WITH HER SOUL.UPGRADED FOR HER FUTURE.
BRUMA YCA — A TIMELESS CLASSIC, PRESERVED WITH PURPOSE
Some yachts are built to last. Very few survive as BRUMA has.
Built in 1950 in Argentina to a design commissioned in 1947 by Eduardo Grimaldi and created by Niels Sörensen Viale, BRUMA YCA is a genuinely distinctive classic yacht, conceived around the principles of strength, safety, comfort and seaworthiness rather than fashion.
Her design draws inspiration from the Nordic motor-fishing vessel tradition, giving her a character that is immediately recognisable: a robust double-ender, substantial displacement, generous accommodation and a highly functional sailing and motoring platform.
At 19.90 metres, with a 5.32-metre beam and variable draft from 1.90 to 2.84 metres, she was designed to be both capable and versatile.
What makes BRUMA particularly special, however, is not simply her age — it is her authenticity.
Approximately 90% of the yacht remains original, including her hull structure, original interior character, furniture and woodwork. Remarkably, no hull planking has been replaced. The original spirit and craftsmanship of the yacht have therefore been preserved rather than recreated, offering something increasingly rare in today's classic yacht market: genuine provenance and genuine originality.
CLASSIC SOUL. MODERN CAPABILITY.
BRUMA has not been frozen in time.
Over recent years, significant investment has been made to preserve her character while bringing her systems and equipment up to the standards required for comfortable and reliable modern cruising.
The yacht has benefited from a continuous programme of professional maintenance and upgrades , including a major refit covering propulsion, rig, electrical systems, plumbing, navigation, accommodation and onboard comfort.
Among the most significant investments are:
• Volvo Penta D8-350 HP engine, installed as part of the major 2021/2022 refit programme, with only 487 hours currently recorded.
• Masts and standing rigging renewed and comprehensively serviced in 2024,while maintaining the traditional character of her wooden Bermuda cutter-ketch rig.
• Raymarine navigation and communication electronics, duplicated and updated through 2025.
• New electrical panel and upgraded electrical infrastructure, adapted to modern European requirements.
• New freshwater systems and water purification equipment, including a 2023 water purifier.
• New air-conditioning system and upgraded refrigeration/gas systems.
• New desalination system and extensive freshwater plumbing renewal.
• Starlink satellite communications for modern connectivity at sea.
• Updated tanks and sanitation systems, including new black-water tanks.
• Continuous annual deck maintenance,woodworking, varnishing,painting and protective-cover programmes.
• Recent upgrades to the galley, bathrooms, flooring, cushions, awnings and interior finishes.
• New mainsail and staysail, with the mizzen also recently renewed; the overall sail inventory remains in good condition.
• New batteries and renewed bow-thruster components.
• New outboard and serviced tender.
• Annual servicing and maintenance of the generator and onboard machinery.
This extensive investment means that BRUMA offers a particularly attractive proposition for the classic-yacht enthusiast: the atmosphere, craftsmanship and authenticity of a mid-century yacht, combined with the systems and equipment necessary for contemporary cruising.
